આજે આપણે ધોરણ 5 ના બીજા સત્રનો Unit 5: Helping Hands શીખીશું. આપણી આસપાસ અનેક વ્યવસાયકારો (Helpers) હોય છે જે આપણને મદદ કરે છે. કુંભાર, ખેડૂત, દરજી, ડોક્ટર, પોલીસ વગેરે. તેઓ શું કામ કરે છે અને ક્યાં કામ કરે છે તે આપણે આ પાઠમાં શીખીશું.
આ ઉપરાંત, આ યુનિટમાં એક સરસ મજાની વાર્તા "The Mouse and the Cap" (ઉંદર અને ટોપી) અને "The Lion and the Mouse" પણ છે. તો ચાલો, મજા કરતા કરતા અંગ્રેજી શીખીએ!

એક ઉંદરને કાપડનો ટુકડો મળ્યો. તે ગંદો હતો. ઉંદર Laundryman (ધોબી) પાસે ગયો અને તેને ધોઈને ઇસ્ત્રી કરવા વિનંતી કરી. ધોબીએ ના પાડી, એટલે ઉંદરે બૂમો પાડી. છેવટે ધોબીએ કપડું ધોઈ આપ્યું.
પછી ઉંદર Tailor (દરજી) પાસે ગયો અને ટોપી સીવવા કહ્યું. દરજીએ ના પાડી, તો ઉંદરે ફરી બૂમો પાડી. દરજીએ માપ લઈને ટોપી સીવી આપી.
ત્યારબાદ તે Needle woman (ભરતકામ કરનાર બહેન) પાસે ગયો અને ટોપી પર કોર (lace) અને ડિઝાઇન કરવા કહ્યું. તેમણે પણ ના પાડી, પણ ઉંદરની બૂમોથી કંટાળીને તેમણે સોનેરી કોર અને ગુલાબ લગાવી આપ્યા.
અંતે, ઉંદર ક્રિકેટ સ્ટેડિયમમાં ગયો અને Captain (કેપ્ટન) ને પોતાની ટોપી સાથે અદલાબદલી કરવા કહ્યું. કેપ્ટને ના પાડી કારણ કે તેને પોતાની 'અશોકચક્ર' વાળી બ્લુ ટોપી બહુ ગમતી હતી. ત્યાં કેપ્ટને કહ્યું કે રૂમમાં બિલાડી છે, એટલે ઉંદર ડરીને ભાગી ગયો!

એકવાર સિંહ સૂતો હતો. એક નાનકડો ઉંદર તેના પર રમવા લાગ્યો. સિંહ જાગી ગયો અને ગુસ્સે થઈ ઉંદરને પકડી લીધો. ઉંદરે વિનંતી કરી, "મને છોડી દો મહારાજ, હું તમને ભવિષ્યમાં મદદ કરીશ." સિંહ હસ્યો, "તું નાનકડો ઉંદર મને શું મદદ કરીશ?" પણ તેણે દયા ખાઈને ઉંદરને છોડી દીધો.
થોડા સમય પછી, સિંહ શિકારીની જાળમાં ફસાઈ ગયો. ઉંદરે સિંહને જોયો. તે દોડીને આવ્યો અને પોતાના તીક્ષ્ણ દાંત વડે જાળી કાપી નાખી. સિંહ મુક્ત થઈ ગયો અને બોલ્યો, "આભાર મારા મિત્ર."
