Unit Title Meaning: "તમને અંગ્રેજી ગમે છે, ખરું ને?"

Question Tag (પ્રશ્ન પૂછડી): આ યુનિટનો મુખ્ય વ્યાકરણનો મુદ્દો 'Question Tag' છે. જ્યારે આપણે કોઈ વાતની ખાતરી કરવા માટે વાક્યના અંતે ટૂંકો પ્રશ્ન પૂછીએ છીએ, તેને Question Tag કહેવાય છે.

The Babool is Beautiful, Isn't It? (બાવળ સુંદર છે, ખરું ને?):

આ યુનિટમાં બાવળના વૃક્ષની એક સુંદર વાર્તા છે. બાવળને પોતાના નાના પાંદડા અને કાંટા ગમતા નથી. તે વનદેવી પાસે સોનેરી પાંદડા, કાચના પાંદડા અને છેલ્લે મોટા લીલા પાંદડા માંગે છે. પણ દરેક વખતે તે મુસીબતમાં મુકાય છે. અંતે તેને સમજાય છે કે કુદરતે તેને જે મૂળ રૂપ (કાંટા અને નાના પાન) આપ્યું છે, તે જ તેના રક્ષણ માટે શ્રેષ્ઠ છે. આપણે જેવા છીએ તેવા સંતોષી રહેવું જોઈએ તેવો બોધ આ વાર્તા આપે છે.

ACTIVITY - 8: The Babool is Beautiful, Isn't It?

(A) Story Translation (વાર્તાનો શબ્દશ: અનુવાદ)

There was a Babool tree in a forest. It had straight branches. It had long, white thorns at the base of each leaf tail.
(જંગલમાં એક બાવળનું ઝાડ હતું. તેને સીધી ડાળીઓ હતી. તેને દરેક પાંદડાના છેડાના મૂળમાં લાંબા, સફેદ કાંટા હતા.)

One day it looked at the leaves of other trees. The leaves had different shapes: round, narrow and broad.
(એક દિવસ તેણે બીજા વૃક્ષોના પાંદડા જોયા. પાંદડાઓના વિવિધ આકારો હતા: ગોળ, સાંકડા અને પહોળા.)

The Babool tree looked sadly at its leaves and thorns. It said to itself, "My leaves are very small and unattractive. They are not like the cute leaves of other trees. And I hate my thorns, too."

Vandevi heard Babool's sad words. She appeared before it and said, "Dear Babool, you look very upset."

Babool said, "Oh yes, I am.' 'But why?", asked Vandevi.

Some people passing through the forest looked at this wonderful tree. They saw the golden leaves, and started plucking them.

The Babool tree begged, "Please don't take my golden leaves. I love them." A man said, "I'll sell the leaves and buy things for my family."

The kind Vandevi touched the trunk of the Babool tree once again with her magic stick. The next morning the leaves of the Babool tree changed into sparkling glass leaves. Alas! Its happiness did not last this time, too.
(દયાળુ વનદેવીએ ફરી એકવાર પોતાની જાદુઈ લાકડી વડે બાવળના થડને સ્પર્શ કર્યો. બીજે દિવસે સવારે બાવળના પાંદડા કાચના ચમકતા પાંદડામાં ફેરવાઈ ગયા. અરેરે! આ વખતે પણ તેની ખુશી ટકી નહીં.)

A stormy wind started blowing through the forest. It blew so hard that all the sparkling glass leaves of the Babool tree broke into small pieces. The Babool tree was ugly and leafless once again.
(જંગલમાં તોફાની પવન ફૂંકાવા લાગ્યો. તે એટલો જોરથી ફૂંકાયો કે બાવળના બધા કાચના પાંદડા નાના ટુકડાઓમાં તૂટી ગયા. બાવળનું ઝાડ ફરી એકવાર કદરૂપું અને પાંદડા વગરનું થઈ ગયું.)

"The cruel wind broke all my glass leaves. Now I must have broad and smooth green leaves. Only then I'll be contented and happy," said Babool tree.

All of a sudden, there came three goats. They were very hungry. They saw the broad and soft green leaves of the Babool tree. They ran to it and started eating its leaves.

The goats ate up all the leaves of the Babool tree. They felt happy and contented. The Babool tree was in tears again. It cried loudly, "O Vandevi! Please save me."

The Babool said to the Vandevi, "Now I have learnt a lesson. I don't want any golden leaves, glass leaves or broad, soft leaves. I want to be a real Babool tree. Please, give me back my leaves and long white thorns. I'll always be happy and contented with them."

The Vandevi gave it back its small green leaves and thorns. Then the Babool tree stood happily in its original evergreen dress forever.
